Donaldson Class - Reception
Wow! Donaldson Class have really impressed us with how well they've settled back in and what good choices they've been making! They have been trying so hard to look after the classroom and the resources. We have been learning about animals that hatch from eggs and have enjoyed reading The Odd Egg by Emily Gravett and predicting what animal was going to hatch out. We found out that baby ducks are called ducklings, baby chickens are called chicks, baby owls are called owletts and baby flamingos are called flaminglettes, designed our own odd eggs and talked about what made them odd. Some were very big, some were very tiny, some were spotty, some had rainbow patterns and some were covered in diamonds. In maths we have been looking at ordering numbers and focusing on what comes before each number on the number line. We have been using our speedy fingers to take away one and show Mrs Starkey the answer. We have been using the language 'one less', 'take away' and 'before'. Talk to me about ... eggs Words to use ... shell, hard, soft, hatch, birth, chick Top tips ... keep practicing your tricky words. See how many you can before the timer runs out! If you're super confident at reading them, try learning to spell them. We have been reading ... The Odd Egg by Emily Gravett

Zephaniah Class - Year 2
This week, Year 2 has jumped straight into our new topics for this term. In our English lessons, we have started learning about our new book called 'The Night Gardener'. The children have all really enjoyed exploring our new topic book. We have looked at all the different words in the book that are unknown to us and looked up the definitions of them, sequence the story using the pictures in the book to support us and created a simple story map together explaining what happens at each part of the story. In our Maths lessons this week, our new topic is measurement. We have been focusing on centimeters and metres this week and the children really enjoyed measuring themselves to see how many centimeters tall they are and how many metres they all are. We used the metre sticks to see how big our classroom and the school hall is and then figured out how many centimeters that was. During our PSHE session, we focused on how we can support each other in positive ways, especially if we are finding things hard. For example, if someone is finding maths challenging we can say "keep going you might not have it now but you will very soon". We spoke about being positive and being resilient. The children had great fun this week with the new playtime schedule with the new equipment.

Angelou Class - Year 4
It’s been another busy and brilliant week in Year 4! In Maths, we learned how to round decimals to the nearest whole number, as well as recognise halves and quarters as decimals. We also practised writing amounts of money using decimal notation. In English, we had great fun creating our own versions of a marvellous medicine! We wrote method instructions using adverbials of time and manner, imperative verbs, and even challenged ourselves to include some alliteration for extra effect. In Humanities, we compared the physical landscapes of London and the Isle of Wight, identifying similarities and differences between a busy city and a coastal island. A fun and fantastic week of learning!

Duffy Class - Year 5
Duffy Class has started to learn about areas in maths this week, calculating areas of rectangles then progressed to composite shapes. They had to use their multiplication facts to help them and then use addition and subtraction to find the area of complicated shapes. In English, we are using a short film as inspiration for our writing, Pandora. This is all about a strange planet with different habitats and strange creatures. The class looked at the language and made up words used in the film, ready to write their own descriptions and create their own planets. In History, we introduced the Vikings to Anglo-Saxon Britain, learning what they were like and how they integrated into Britain at this time. And finally, half the class started their sailing lessons at Seaview this week. They all came back enthused and excited, talking about their first lesson.

Goodfellow Class - Year 6
This week, Year Six had a very productive week! On Thursday, they participated in an online workshop with the NHS, learning about the variety of careers within the healthcare system, including roles like doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists. In history, the class began a new topic learning about the Kingdom of Benin. They used various sources to explore important aspects of Africa’s history, including the slave trade, ancient Egyptians, animal poaching, and movement across the continent. They also started planning their low-sugar snacks, which they will be making in the coming weeks. On top of all this, Goodfellow class completed their mock exams, and we are incredibly proud of how well they’ve all done!

Extra Curricular
We are proud to offer an extremely full and varied programme of clubs which provides opportunities for the pupils to attend in order to develop their interests, but also the chance to try new or different activities. This extended curriculum includes sport, drama, music and some unusual clubs, such as Petanque or Country Dancing, and also provides frequent opportunities for our Island Primary schools to engage in Area and Island events. Music and performance has a central role to play in the life of the School with each Key Stage participating in a Production every year, enabling our pupils to learn a wide range of instruments, participate in choirs, dance and musical productions. We also have committed to participation in the Dance Live challenge each year which encourages the children to dance on stage for example. Support is also provided for families who find it difficult to enable their children to participate, ensuring that no child is disadvantaged.
